APP-BASED car hire service Careem has launched Dubai’s first lady driver chauffeur service for women.
Female residents and visitors to the United Arab Emirates now have a “dedicated travel option” after a regulatory approval deal was signed between Careem, the Dubai Taxi Authority and the Roads and Transport Authority.
The chauffeur service, called ‘Ameera’, is Arabic for ‘princess’ and offers female clients tinted windows, wifi and the use of an in-car phone charger.
Fifteen trained female captains will pilot the initial fleet of limousines and executive saloons and will, according to the general manager of Careem, Aura Lunde:
Create new career paths for women in the UAE. We hope to inspire them to break through barriers and seek opportunities beyond traditional roles.
“Ameera cars will be operated exclusively by female captains, further contributing to the empowerment of women in our country and responding to the needs of the female community in Dubai. Whether that relates to safety and security, cultural sensitivity or simply personal preference.”
