TESLA BOSS Elon Musk has launched a new electric truck which he claims can do zero to 60mph in five seconds and travel for 500 miles on a single charge.
Musk drove the ‘Tesla Semi’ himself to the vehicle presentation inside an aircraft hangar in California and said the lorry came with enhanced auto-pilot technology that made jack-knifing impossible.
Mr Musk added:
Conventional lorries account for nearly a quarter of transport-related greenhouse gas emissions in America and it is economic suicide to continue to use diesel trucks instead of the Tesla Semi. If a number of vehicles are driven in convoy it would be cheaper than shipping goods by rail.
A spokesman for Tesla said the company also planned to build a network of ‘Mega-chargers’, capable of producing a 400-mile charge for the new electric trucks in 30 minutes.
