AVON AND Somerset Police detectives have arrested a man in Bath after he tried to con people out of cab-fare money to get a non-existent pregnant wife to hospital.
The arrest of the man, on suspicion of fraud by false representation, came about after residents and local businesses took to social media to warn others about the “well-dressed” fraudster.
A spokesman for Avon & Somerset Police said:
Police are investigating an incident in which a man was arrested after calling at a house in St John’s Road, Bath and asked for money, claiming that his pregnant wife had gone into labour.
A suspect was arrested at 1:40pm on Thursday 17 January and later released under investigation. Police enquires continue.
