TRANSPORT FOR London is investigating footage from a taxi driver’s dashcam device which appears to show a driverless bus careering across the road with no one behind the wheel.
The film (runaway@TfLTPH on Twitter.com) shows a bus, apparently out of control, being brought suddenly to a halt by a man, believed to be the driver returning to his seat.
The footage was captured by a taxi driver as he worked the nightshift in Marylebone, Central London, and tweeting under the Twitter name @Turntablist91 said: “I spotted the bus pulling out in front of me without a driver and was just able to slow down in time.”
A passenger in the back of the taxi can be heard saying:
“What is he doing? Is he sleeping? Fu**ing hell!” The cabbie replied: “He wasn’t in the driving seat”.
The film footage appears to show at least one male passenger on the bus but the taxi driver who filmed the incident on his dashcam said he did not believe anybody was injured.
The Metropolitan Police’s Safety Team said the video was, “unbelievable” and added: “I suggest @TfL should be holding a full investigation into this matter @metpoliceuk.”
A spokesman for Transport for London said: “We have asked the bus operator to investigate this footage and report back to us.”
