A CAR REGISTRATION plate with the number TAX1 has been sold for £78,000 (£92,000 with buyer fees) at Humbert & Ellis Auctioneers in Northamptonshire.

The winning bid was placed online but it is not known if the “head-turning” plate will be used on a licensed cab.

Auctioneer Jonathan Humbert said:

We get a lot of generic plates that can be low value, but because of the UK font, the 1 looks like an ‘i’ and so it is much more sellable. A lot of armchair valuers might say, “That’s worth £100,000,” but they are not the ones who get their money out of their wallet.”of their wallet.
