DELIVERY firm Sagawa Express is addressing Japan’s severe driver shortage by offering its new and existing courier staff the opportunity to work a four-day-week.

The move, which has been adopted by Yahoo Japan Corp, means that people can work 10 hours a day over four days, freeing up a day for childcare or to take on a second job.

The industry is facing severe driver shortages due to the huge growth in commerce and an official for Sagawa Express said: “We want to secure human resources through various ways”.
