A TEAMMATE OF Lewis Hamilton was robbed at gunpoint as he travelled in a chauffeur-driven car from Mexico City Airport to the hotel used by the Mercedes race team.
A spokesman for Mercedes said two gunmen stopped the chauffeur and demanded the driver and the high profile un-named manager hand over their belongings.
The spokesman added:
A team member was robbed while travelling from the airport towards the city when in heavy stationary traffic. Wallets and watches were taken and while there were no physical injuries, they were a little shaken up for obvious reasons.
The latest security guidelines issued by the British Government warn that crime and violence is “a serious problem” in Mexico and advises visitors to the country to “keep car doors locked and windows closed, especially in traffic lights”.
