GUARDIAN JOURNALIST and left-wing activist Owen Jones (32) has accused a London black cab driver of nearly knocking him off his bicycle and shouting, “I fu*king love it when cyclists die”.

Mr Jones claimed the taxi driver then said, “Go and play with some fu*king traffic lights”, to which he replied, “Mate, I will out this on Twitter”.

The newspaper columnist said the cabbie then grinned and replied, “Good, I’ll smile for the camera”.

Mr Jones added: “This was him (see above) literally smiling for the camera, by the way, when I said I’d put it on Twitter. So I have his consent.” (For legal reasons PHC has decided to pixelate the alleged offenders face).

Many of Mr Jones’ 500,000 followers backed his version of the encounter and have advised him to report the incident to the police.

TV host and fellow cyclist Jeremy Vine, who has previously written about his confrontations with black cab drivers, said: “This is absolutely typical, disgusting road hog behaviour.”

Steve-McNamara

Steve McNamara of the Licensed Taxi Drivers Association, said:

It is not clear yet whether the driver in question was an LTDA member and without a badge number we can not determine this.

However, we would condemn such shocking and reckless behaviour by any cabbie, for putting himself and other road users at risk. And we would urge TfL, as the regulator of our industry, to undertake an investigation.
