A Massachusetts delivery driver has filed a lawsuit against Google claiming it improperly classified her as an independent contractor and owes her overtime and expenses.
Google Express driver Anna Coorey, who was hired by a third party courier service, claims she had to wear a Google Express uniform and was required to only work for Google during her shift.
According to employer laws in the state of Massachusetts, this makes her an employee of Google, and therefore entitled to paid overtime and other expenses.
Uber and Lyft face similar lawsuits from drivers, brought by the same law firm which filed the case against Google.
Amazon Prime Now drivers have filed a similar lawsuit against Amazon.com Inc. in California.
