GLASGOW CITY councillors are being asked to approve an increase in hackney tariffs to compensate drivers who have lost out to Uber.

An independent report by the Taxi Research Partners concluded that a 2.5 per cent rise in fares was necessary as black cab drivers had seen a drop in takings because of e-hail app firms.

If approved, the minimum base fare rate would go up from £2.80 to £3 but Stephen Flynn of Glasgow Taxis said:

This is not enough of an increase to make a difference to either passengers or owners.
