A FORMER PRIVATE hire driver has been jailed for 14 years after he was found guilty of raping a woman at knife-point in London’s West End nearly 20 years ago.
Haci Ibramahain Koc (53) was arrested and charged after a cold case review by the Metropolitan Police’s Sexual Offences, Exploitation and Child Abuse Command.
The ex-minicab driver, now living in Devon, was identified after detectives made a DNA match when he gave a sample for an unrelated matter in February.
Isleworth Crown Court heard that Koc attacked the 28 year old woman after she hailed his minicab on 17 May 1994 at around 2:30am in the morning.
He tilted the passenger seat backwards after stopping the car and then pulled out a knife, cut a lock of hair off and raped her. The terrified victim managed to fight him off and escape from the minicab before calling the police.
Koc pleaded not guilty to the charge of rape but a jury did not believe him and he was convicted and sentenced to 14 years in prison.
Detective inspector Keith Braithwaite, of the Serious and Complex Case Team, said:
Despite the overwhelming forensic evidence against Koc, he still denied the charge against him and went on trial putting his victim in the witness box and forcing her to relive her ordeal 20 years on.
“Koc has shown little if any remorse for this horrific crime and I hope the verdict and sentence gives some closure to the victim for her ordeal. I would like to thank her for her courage and dignity throughout.”
