BLACK CAB manufacturer the London Taxi Company (LTC) has opened a new £300 million vehicle plant in Coventry and is the UK’s first new car making facility in Britain for more than a decade.
Over 1,000 jobs, including 200 engineers and 30 apprenticeships have been created and the factory should be producing 5,000 vehicles a year by 2019.
Unite union regional officer Peter Coulson said:
This is a fantastic story of a company that was on its knees in 2013. Now, thanks to the commitment of Geely’s (LTC’s parent company) management and accompanying large-scale investment, the iconic London hackney carriage taxi is set for its continued renaisance.
