THE DUBAI TRANSPORT Authority (DTA) is hoping to have a self-driving helicopter-taxi up and running in the sky in the next few weeks.
The electric-powered Chinese made EHang 184 flies at around 100kph (60mph) at an altitude of 300 meters (1,000 feet) and can make trips of up to 30 minutes.
Passengers will pre-pay for their journeys, then select a destination for the autonomous eight-propeller driverless-taxi and then sit back and allow the vehicle to be guided to their destination by a ground control centre.
DTA boss Mattar al-Tayer said:
The autonomous aerial vehicle which was exhibited at the World Government Summit, has already been flown in the Dubai sky and we are making every effort to start the operation of the vehicle by the end of July 2017.
