CAR-HAILING firm Shouqi Limousine & Chauffeur is set to join forces with Chinese internet search giant Baidu in a venture to design, test and bring driverless vehicles to the consumer market.

A spokesman for Baidu said it would provide Shouqi with its renowned map service while the chauffeur company said it would work to develop the software needed to help its vehicles navigate the roads of China with artificial intelligence technology.

Shouqi Limousine & Chauffeur operates in 50 cities across China and according to a spokesman, was approached by internet search engine Baidu:

In a bid to reshape its business around autonomous driving and the development of driverless vehicles.
