A LIMOUSINE driver living in the Venezuelan capital of Caracas has voiced his opposition to a government plot to centralise power and avoid regional elections.
Ricardo Herrera (36) said he had watched the current unrest from the sidelines but felt he had to join the demonstrations spreading across the country when president Nicolas Maduro sidelined opposition leaders with a new constitutional decree.
Mr Herrera said:
Unlike some of these young people, I remember a time before the socialists. Now is not the time for fear. I have sat out the protests so far but decided after Maduro’s announcement that I could no longer stand by. If we back down now, we’ll be under their boot for the rest of our lives.
