TAXI DRIVERS in Barcelona have described the moment when an Islamist terrorist drove a white van at tourists and residents on the popular Las Ramblas promenade in the centre of the city.
Thirteen people were killed and 120 injured in the attack in which a number of cabbies witnessed the carnage at first hand.
Taxi driver Oscar Cano said:
The white van suddenly jumped the curb and sped down the central pedestrian area at high speed, swerving from side to side as it tried to hit people. I heard a lot of people screaming and you could see all the bodies lying through Las Ramblas. It was brutal and a very tough image to see.
Cabbie Mariano Romero also saw the terrorist attack and said: “I saw a white van veer onto the walkway. I then heard it as it hit people, saw them flying through the air. There was a family nearby and I told them to get in. They were tourists and were trembling with fear. I took them free of charge to their hotel near to the La Sagrada church.”
