A DANGEROUS patient who escaped from a Hawaii psychiatric hospital was captured after a taxi driver informed the police of his location.
Randall Saito walked out of the Hawaii State Hospital on November 12, took a plane to Maui and then another flight to San Jose in California.
A spokesman for the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office said:
Honolulu police received information that Saito was on his way to his brother’s home in Stockton, California. He was captured in Stockton on Wednesday morning as the result of a tip-off from an alert taxi driver.
Saito was committed to the Hawaii State Hospital in 1981, two years after he was acquitted of the killing of Sandra Yamashiro, who was found in a boot of a car with multiple knife and gunshot wounds.
A court refused to release Saito in 1993 after ruling he continued to suffer from sexual sadism and necrophilia.
