SANGEETA BIRDI extended her unbeaten record and landed a shot at the British title with a first round win at York Hall in Bethnal Green last month.

Fighting for only the fifth time in her fledgling career, Birdi, who is trained by London private hire driver Irfan Malik, once again proved too strong for her opponent, halting Manchester-based figher Sophia Jones in the opening round, with her exciting all-action style.

Despite her relative inexperience, victory has elevated Birdi to mandatory status for the British title, which she will now challenge for on May 9th.

Speaking after the fight, she told PHC: “I am pleased with my performance and looking forward to fighting for the title in a few months time.”
